Healing: Manageable Ways to be Kinder to Yourself

Kindness is an innate characteristic in all of us. Spreading kindness to others is a human thing to do. However, sometimes, you are so attentive in sharing positive feelings towards others that you forget to offer them to yourself first. How can you multiply your gift of kindness if you do not start within? Although love, patience, kindness, and all other intangible powers which everyone has are not only acquired through an external source. Thus, it is essential to tap into your inner self and magnify your internal source. You are capable of healing in whatever means fit and manageable for you.

An inspirational journey book by Diana Grippo, the Bipolar Chronicles: From Crazed to Content, narrates the ups and downs of her life. It is a memoir of her experiences navigating her mental health crisis and overcoming her substance abuse. She utilized a spiritual practice through The Twelve Steps, music therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Her healing journey may be different from yours, but one thing you both have in common—is the gift of innate kindness towards oneself. Read on some manageable ways that you can try to cultivate and harness your inner power.

Perform Self-affirmations

Self-affirmation is a way of proclaiming positive words and statements about oneself. It is a beneficial exercise to help improve your self-worth, value, and self-esteem. You can do it by recalling a series of significant events in your life, achievements that you are proud of, and moments that give you a sense of fulfillment and gratitude. You can perform this in many ways, such as through journaling, self-talk, sharing in a support group or someone you trust, or with professional intervention.

Spend a Time Off

Relaxation and recreation are a vital part of life. Give yourself a worry-free weekend getaway, a travel plan, or simply a time off on your own at home. Spending time off is not only viable once a week nor every month. You can also do it at the end of every day after work or school. Your mind deserves to be stress-free, so it has the time to breathe, reset, and make more significant decisions for oneself.

Eat a Balanced Meal

The food you consume is also your way of showing kindness to yourself. When you give importance to your physical health, your holistic healing, including your mental stability, will thank you for it. It is better to start eating healthy today than suffer its consequences, eventually.

Do Daily Exercises

When your physical health is well, your mental health mirrors it. Exercise releases happy hormones called endorphins. These hormones are capable of reducing your perception of pain. Just like eating a balanced meal—exercising is taking care of your physical body, too.

Go Out to Nature

Nature has its therapeutic properties. So as the food we consume, the air we breathe, and the water we drink are from the conservations of nature. And surrounding yourself in the calmness of its environment is proven to reduce stress. Go out for a walk, hike, swim on the beach, or go camping. No matter how you experience nature as a form of therapy and healing, make sure to keep yourself safe.

Be With Your Favorite People and Seek Help

Admitting that you need help is a kind gesture you can gift yourself. Surround yourself with your favorite people and the ones you can trust. As much as you want some time alone, there are people around you that can support your healing. Your family, friends, support groups, healthcare professionals are with you in your journey. You will never walk on your own. You do not have to rush it anyway. Take all your time, and they will be there for you when you are ready to reach out.

Practice Prayer and Meditation

Communication with God or with a Divine Presence is one of the most helpful ways to heal. It boosts the spiritual energy that is so essential in your healing journey. Further, there are many practices that you can do depending on which religious and spiritual paths you follow. However, across all beliefs, a time of introspection is the most common method of communicating with The Divine. Connecting with your truth is vital in times of distress. Allow yourself to surrender all your troubles to a force more knowing and more powerful than you.
